Studenter presenterar sina arbeten inom Produktutveckling och Teknisk design.

Kl. 10.00 Isabel Carlson (Produktutveckling)

Titel: Design of temporary modular storage halls in glue-laminated timber

Beskrivning: In this fast changing world the demands for temporary storage and adaptable commercial spaces is increasing. Businesses and industries are seeking flexible solutions that can be scaled up and down or even relocated as the needs shift.

At the same time the construction industry is starting to practice more circular building where new buildings are designed for reuse and structures can be dismantled and reassembled in new locations.

This thesis explores the design of temporary, modular and rebuildable storage halls with structural beams in glue-laminated timber. Inspired by the modularity and scalability of event halls and the principles of circular design, this project aims to create a durable timber structure that can be easily assembled and disassembled multiple times throughout the lifespan.

Titel: Minimizing the headroom for overhead sectional doors

Beskrivning: The market for industrial overhead sectional doors remained the same for about 60 years, until Assa Abloy released a new method for operating the doors a few years ago. While innovative, this new product has one notable drawback: it does not utilize vertical space efficiently, as it can not reach a fully horizontal position for all door panels.

This master's thesis applies Ulrich and Eppinger's product development process to design a solution that minimizes required space between the top of the opened door and the roof. With a heavy focus on testing and creating empirical values for concept evaluation.

Titel: New Generation Tamper Resistant Key Switch

Beskrivning: Used by millions every day but rarely noticed, the key switch is an essential security peripheral found in everything from sliding doors to shutter blinds and elevators. This thesis questions how secure current solutions are, what parameters can be used to measure tamper resistance, and whether a product can ever be considered tamper-proof.

The thesis explores how the next generation of key switches can be designed to align with the Assa Abloy brand while balancing cost-efficient manufacturing with enhanced protection against physical tampering. It also examines how concepts can be prototyped cost-effectively to enable iterative testing of tamper resistance.

The result is a concept for a new-generation key switch that provides a guideline for designing hardware peripherals to meet the security needs of today and tomorrow.

Titel: UX Investigation of Future Service Tool for Technicians

Beskrivning: Apps are used frequently in modern society, both in our everyday life and increasingly in professional contexts. A lot of functions today depend on apps, making it equally important that they are aesthetically appealing as functional. How should an app, used in professional settings, be designed to offer the best possible user experience? This thesis investigates the user experience of an app, intended for professional use, currently in development for technicians that install and serve automatic doors. These doors are found at shopping malls and hospitals among other environments. By involving future users in the design, the aim is to identify key factors that can make the app more user friendly and visually pleasing. Further, new suggestions of how to design an intuitive and attractive service tool for the technicians will be presented. The results will be based on identified user needs and theories about interaction design.
