“At Design Sciences, people are front and center as we take on society’s challenges from a multidisciplinary perspective.”
– Fredrik Nilsson, Head of Department
Focusing on people, technology and design
People, objects and environments influence each other mutually – at home, at work, and in society. The Department of Design Sciences in the Faculty of Engineering at Lund University is located at the Ingvar Kamprad Design Center (IKDC). The research here focuses on people, technology and design.
Design Sciences work for a sustainable society with a broad approach. Research on the sustainable workplace, the effects of digitalization, how to reduce food waste, sustainable transportation, how airborne particles affect our health, and how things should be designed to be accessible for all – these perspectives are all gathered under the same roof. Our fields of expertise, interdisciplinarity, and interaction with the outside community are essential for us to meet complex societal challenges together.
The research and teaching at Design Sciences play an important role in the design of new andbetter systems that are useful in our everyday lives – and that can improve people’s life situations.
Our educational programs and courses are closely linked to current research. And with the School of Industrial Design and other comprehensive civil engineering programs, we have established a foundation for the future design of products, processes and environments.
The Department of Design Sciences covers the following subjects: Aerosol technology, Ergonomics, Industrial design, Innovation engineering, Packaging logistics, Product development and Rehabilitation engineering (Certec).
