About the Department
Focusing on people, technology and design
People, environments and objects influence each other mutually – at home, at work, and in society.
At Design Sciences, we start out from the UN’s global goals to create sustainable living conditions for everyone. For us, it’s about designing technologies and environments for the good of all people based on these sustainability goals
With the human being at the center, we explore how technology and design can contribute to sustainable development.
Design Sciences’ breadth of expertise, its interdisciplinarity, and its interaction with the outside community are essential for meeting complex societal challenges – to benefit the climate, digitalization, industry, the built environment and life.
Research on the sustainable workplace, the effects of digitalization, food waste, sustainable transportation, how airborne particles affect our health, and how things should be designed to be accessible for all – these perspectives are all gathered under the same roof.
Design Sciences’ educational programs and courses are closely linked to current research – here one can find the School of Industrial Design and several other engineering programs that establish a foundation for the future design of products, processes and environments.
