PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT, TECHNICAL DESIGN: Additive Manufacturing – Alfa Laval
Alfa Laval in Lund and Eskilstuna, Sweden, is looking for master students to work on Additive Manufacturing
– Publicerad den 3 May 2022
Alfa Laval create better everyday conditions for people by contributing to a more sustainable future through many changes. They are looking for Master thesis students to their Additive Manufacturing.
Gustav de Laval invented the milk separator in 1878 and this invention laid the foundation for what Alfa Laval is today – a leading global supplier of innovative engineered solutions. Alfa Laval is now building a future Technology centre for AM.
Background
Alfa Laval is creating a Technology Centre for Additive Manufacturing (AM) in Eskilstuna. This is an important step on our Disruptive technology journey and work to improve competitiveness. The Technology Centre has the goal to build strong R&D knowledge in Design for AM and the vison to establish AM as a new core production technology in Operations.
This Master thesis is defined to be a part of the buildup of the Technology Centre.
About the Master thesis project
Estimated time needed: 10-20 weeks
Development of an internal Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) process to take full advantages of unique capabilities from Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) additive manufacturing (AM) metal.
There will be parallel Master thesis projects running to interact and cooperate with, e.g., for general surveys and purposes.
Objective
Establish an DfAM process for Alfa Laval to be utilized with all R&D departments.
Deliverables
- Review of existing DfAM methods
- A proposal for a DfAM process including methods, guidelines and software to achieve design optimization and in further steps to increase the level of design automation for metal AM.
- Demonstrated on 1-3 selected parts
