LTH AEROSOLS Open lecture: Aerosol Toxicology - In-vivo Studies and Risk Assessment
Welcome to an open lecture within the Profile Area Aerosols!
Inhalation of particles in ambient air and in the working environment is associated with morbidity and mortality. Respirable particles and fibers are especially hazardous, because they are removed very slowly from the lung, resulting in long-lasting inflammation, which in turn is a risk factor for cancer and cardiovascular disease. In this lecture, Ulla Vogel will go through the mechanisms-of-action of particle-induced cardiovascular disease and cancer and give examples of risk assessment and occupational exposure limits.
About the speaker: Ulla Vogel is professor in occupational chemical toxicology at the National Research Centre for the Working Environment in Denmark. She is European Registered Toxicologist (2015-), trained as a biochemist (1991) with a PhD in molecular biology from University of Copenhagen (1995). Her research has focused on the toxicology of inhaled particles especially in relation to cancer, cardiovascular disease and risk assessment of occupational exposures especially to particles. She acts as advisor to the Danish Working Environment Authority, the Danish Environment Protection Agency and the Ministry of Health.
Most welcome!
