Workshop on Generative AI and Industrial Design Education
Generative AI is already reshaping how we design, learn and teach. Teachers, program leaders and researchers in the field of Industrial design are invited to a workshop for industrial design educators and program leaders to reflect together on the role of Generative AI in design education.
For industrial design education, the challenge AI poses is not only about tools and services, policies or academic integrity – but about how we cultivate judgement, responsibility, creativity and meaning in a future where AI is embedded in both creative processes and products.
At the workshop the discussion will explore:
- How design education can prepare students technically, ethically, and existentially for an AI-shaped professional future
- What aspects of human creativity and judgement should be protected and strengthened
- How to balance AI-supported efficiency with students’ need for understanding, authorship, and responsibility
- How to create learning environments that encourage critical reflection on AI’s implications, not only its functions
- How do we ensure that students will reach the learning goals while still exploring the opportunities of Generative AI
We will also touch on curriculum progression, AI literacy, assessment, risks for learning, and the changing role of designers in society.
The workshop is in English and aims to create a shared space for reflection, dialogue, and collective sense-making across programs.
The workshop is free, but you need to register by filling in the registration form.
